Greatsword build: Crimson Fiend and charged chains

Progression, practical choices and current mode rules.

Equipment and investment

  • Use Crimson Fiend after reaching its scroll in Hermit’s Mountains: Sentinel’s Greatsword plus the set’s mask, gauntlets, top, pants and footwear. Before that, use a level-appropriate Greatsword.

  • Meet survival and stamina needs before investing in the current weapon’s actual scaling. Once scaling conversion is available, the weapon class alone does not mandate Strength for every damage point.

  • Use accessories for stamina needs and the boss’s relevant resistance. Start with Keshta, then consider Wulfric for a frontal play style.

Build the basic loop first

  • Learn Savage Momentum and Mortal Blow before extending charge chains and defensive follow-ups. Test a multi-rank skill at its base rank before investing more into a move you cannot land.

Match the sequence to the opening

  • Shortest punish: guard a known final hit, use Armor Breaker and reassess whether the enemy has recovered.

  • Standard loop: in a sufficient opening, use charged Swift Attack / Savage Momentum into Mortal Blow. Add a dodge attack and Combat Cadence transition once comfortable.

  • Long opening or exhaustion: confirm that charging and recovery fit before adding a Spirit buff or further heavy attack. Stop if the target leaves effective range.

Respect the set triggers

  • Crimson Fiend’s Vigor, charged-attack and Mortal Blow effects have separate conditions. Do not assume all displayed bonuses are permanently active together.

  • If charging repeatedly gets you hit, shorten the loop before adjusting stamina and weight. Set recovery is not infinite stamina.

Before saving the preset

  • Test a short sequence and a long-opening sequence against the same enemy on the same difficulty. Track safe recovery rather than only peak damage.

  • Check active set thresholds, weight, resistance accessories, phantom ability and skill activation before saving. Ultimate Challenge provides its own equipment, so this campaign loadout does not transfer directly.
